Just to check with fellow betta fanatics ....
does your orange betta have a special preference for eggs.
In my personal experience ... I already have a Ornage male that comsumed all the eggs he managed to squeeze out of the female and eat the eggs clean the very next day. So far ... it is already his 3rd time.
Nicole have also shared his experience with me and he have similar experience with all he few pairs of Oranges.
Any one also have similar experience?

I thought mine is Sunkist which the male likes to eat. He ate it on the day the fries hatch (including those unhatched yet). So I'm not ALONE!

Hmmm ... another victim. =P
Will need to gather more response to confirm on this strange traits of Orange betta.
I managed to salvage some of the hatching eggs (about 30) and now using artificial hatching. Hope that I can still get some fries.
Anyone else that can share on this? Need to confirm on whether is it the problem with the breed or just pure bad luck.
I have to admit that the Orange male is good for spawning and always managed to find ways to squeeze eggs out of the females ... but always end up eating his "fruit" of labour.

Hi Samuel
I encountered the same problem as you, the male ate up all the eggs.... :(
Never gave me a opportunity to salvage. It becomes a phobia whenever I try to spawn.

Samuel,
Have you try apple (red) x orange female?

Not yet ... but think that might be a good pairing considering the fact the red females are usually difficult to spawn.
But being NR2 ... what could be the possible outcome?

Not too sure. But Marissa had told me before that she did orange x yellow -> orange too.

My orange male has never failed me (from Ing Ming). He has bred with two different source females (SY and Ing Ming, which are actually the same spawn) in my hands. And he has just bred successfully to a female yellow geno CT. His brother (I presume - from SY) which I gave to Phil has bred successfully to his female (direct from Gilbert, second line).
Mine has been the ideal father, taking care of fry till I catch him out.
Perhaps your spawns are not fertile?

Li Chieh

My Orange male is a good spawner but not a good father.
He always manage to get the females to lay their eggs but also always having the eggs ended up in his stomach.
3rd time now ... will try him again for the forth time.
But for now ... is resting time for him.
