URGENT! We need all available members to assist in setting up for the event on that day from 7am onwards. In order to gauge the amount of manpower that would be available on that day, please email Myron Tay : myrontay@singnet.com.sg regarding your attendance by 23 August.
Members who wish to exhibit or sell their bettas;
BCS members (yes, only BCS members) can exhibit their bettas as well as to sell their bettas during the event! Again, because we would need to guage the space required, pls email Myron Tay : myrontay@singnet.com.sg by 23 August, stating the quantity of bettas you would be putting up for exhibition or sale. Please note that you will be mending you own sales stall and please bring your own containers or tanks for the sales (pls avoid using plastic bag for the sales of bettas when displaying). As for the exhibition bettas, BCS will provide the glass tank (the ones used during the competition).
BCS charges on your sales;
BCS would be charging a fee of $2 or 10% of the sale price per fish sold at the Exhibition, whichever is higher. All contributions to the Club above the amounts stipulated are welcomed.
BCS Fund Raising;
Members are requested to sell their 'inferior' bettas (not sick nor deformed) to BCS on consignment basis at a flat price of $2 and $5 depending on quality. These will be sold at the exhibition for $5 and $10 respectively (especially to newbies) and you will be paid after your bettas are sold. Unsold bettas will be returned back to you without payment. Thank you for your participation.
I hope to have your attendance on that day as it's a very good opportunity for us bettas hobbyists to meet up and interact. As mentioned during the AGM last month, this exhibition cum roadshow provides BCS members an avenue to exhibit and sell your extra bettas.
In order have greater exposure for our exhibition cum roadshow, 2 advertisements will be placed in Straits Times and 1 in the Chinese main paper. Press release will be issued to the various newspapers and TV stations. Promotional brochures will also be available at most LFS and a banner will be hanged at the exhibition premise. Annoucement will be made in the various forum boards as well.
So it's really an opportunity not to be missed. If you have any queries, pls do not hesistate to contact any of the committee by email, call or post it at the BCS forum. Hope to see you there. Thank you for your participation.

Sebas ... not to worry so much.
I think your fishes have a certain standard there ... you can always indicate to us your intention to sell ... then adjust the prices accordingly on the day itself.
In fact ... you are probably the only few pple having marble plakats for sale ... besides Straits.
As for myself ... I dun have any.

That's great, Sebastian.
Seen your photos of the plakat, dun worry do what you feel like doing and dun worry about paiseh. This event is specially created for members to 'test water' so make good use of it. Consignment is good for club and priority should be given to personal sales. You have my support.

Hi betta lovers,
Below are the details of the 1st BCS Betta Exhibition Cum Roadshow;
1.How to get there?
"Take bus 76 from Yio chu Kang mrt bus terminal..and see the mcdonalds opposite to the CC then stop...stop ahead of the mcdonalds that is.
Also can take 268 from angmokio" bus guide by TL Tan (thank you).
2. Where is the location of the exhibition and when?
The exhibition will be held at;
Date : 31 August 2002
Time : 10am - 4pm
Venue: Multi-Purpose Hall, Kebun Baru Community Club (216, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4)
Admission is free! Open to Public.
Location map - See BCS website;
http://www.bettaclubsingapore.com/events_6.htm
3. What you will expect to see at the exhibition?
- There will be more than 500 bettas on exhibition and sales. That include the various strains and types like HM, deltas, CT, plakats, imbellis, etc.. Your local favourite breeders will be there too (don't ask me who haha).
- Will the bettas on sale be expensive? Well, the pricing always go hand in hand with quality - the very good true HM can be more than $100 of course! But there will be plenty of lower price bettas specially for newbies to choose and they start from as low as $5! Bring enough cash (anyway there is a POSB ATM near Lam Hong, at the hawker center). Do expect a number of good quality bettas and special strain of plakat or imbellis on sale.
- There will also be sales of BBS eggs, Vineger eels (very good fry food), Microworms (very large portion), tank dividers, glass tanks, etc... So you really have to bring enough cash. Sorry no NETS, credit card or cheque.
- Education aspect;
i)Different growth stages of bettas
ii) Spawning bettas
iii) Show the various medicines, food used for bettas and also show what is ketapang leaves.
iv) BBS hatchery, etc.
- And many more surprises for you!
4. Why you should be there?
As this is the 1st exhibition organised by BCS, it may not be the best but it's definitely a good start and we can only keep trying our best to keep it up!
There will be more varieties of bettas to view and purchase as different hobbyists and breeders are participating. So it's like a one-stop shopping for bettas and you don't have to go round hunting for it. You may also learn a few tips from the hobbyists there, chat and exchange ideas with them. If you have problem in looking for a female betta to breed, then you must go there to look for it - you may be able to find it, who knows!
Hope to have all your support and see you there. Thank you.

To all BCS members,
In conjunction with the BCS Betta Exhibition cum Roadshow, we Straits Aquariums will be releasing ONLY 12 pieces of our famous Red HM Female. These will be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis at $100.00 each for this show promotion offer. No reservation shall be entertained.
So for those Betta enthusiasts who have wanted very much to start their own Red HM line, this is a golden opportunity as we will not be releasing anymore Red HM Female after the show. So please come down to Keban Bahru CC this Saturday and we look forward to seeing you.
Good luck to all members
regards.

Now that its over and the public feedback so far has been quite positive, maybe members who were there that day can provide some feedback too.

My feedback for the exhibition & roadshow:
1. Very good response (considering small betta community & moderate
publicity). Many asked when is the next activity (I asked them to join BCS) and the competition.
2. Many new and young hobbyists - who had the opportunity to talk to the many experts around and learn. Feedback I got from them were the displays and exhibits were very useful. Many complained that
their fry were much smaller (for the same age) as what the more
experienced breeders could produce - this may be a topic for discussion in one of the subsequent meetings.
3. Good organisation - no hiccups
My only concern was that when we were closing, there were still people walking in (maybe enthusiasts who were late, but also a possible security risk for the barang barang, esp. money box) - it would be best if we could have a table with a sign at the door to say the show is over.
In any case, it was a very good show & shows the great effort put in by the committee. Well done, committee members!
cheers, sy (p.s. hope the takings aren't too bad)

Hi SY,
Thank you for your feedback and participation. Do agreed with what you've said and equally concerned about that security issues in fact throughout the show. Thanks I've got 2 hidden CCTV installed - first to check on any stealing of fishes (lesson learnt) and any dishonesty during the sales.
The takings are good but still too far lacking after deducting our expenses - sad to say that.
