In my opinion ... betta seems to prefer cool weather to perform their mating ritual ... agree?

Its like a hotel mah!
actually I find that unless it gets overly warm, they will spawn anyhow. Just that fries mortaility may go up as higher temperature lowers oxygen level.

Just a question ... do you use aged water for spawning or you use rain water?

Being the lazy type, do you think I will bother to line up my platoon of tubs when the thunder sounds? I will be snoozing away when it rains.
Use tap water lah.....de-chlro...5 mins later put them in. Then put a 'do not disturb' sign nearby. Within 2 days [ usually 1 day ], you will know if they have exchanged rings. Just spawned a pair of irids and melano/steel yesterday.
Rain water may not be clean these days.....lots of air pollution. Also, they have not been filtered through the ground so has no minerals and is basically similar to distilled water. No beneficial effect actually.

I see. So how if we have a large spawn and the weather is too hot?

weather hot is good...then they wont get drafts...mucus in their labryinth system when they take their first breath.
Anyway, weather apart, i found my 3 spawns all spawn in the late morning period. Thats why i can witness them all. Any ideas?
Cheers,

But not good for spawning ... they prefer cool weather.
Agree? Maybe that is one reason why they spawn during late mornings when it is still not so hot yet ...

I think all this about hot or cool is just barking up the wrong three.....
My 2 cents:
Generally bettas are tropical/subtropical so they breed when it is warm, like 90% or more of all animals on earth.
I believe the trigger is actually the change in barometric pressure - signalling impending rains. Rain will up water levels and stimulate the production of all kinds of microorganisms which baby bettas need. So the adults are stimulated to breed under these conditions.
Why it seems like they breed better in hot weather? Likely because hot weather generally equates to dry season (in more seasonal climes) and it would still be hot when the rains come. (so actual stimulation is likely change in pr but seems like they breed better in hot weather 'cause it's still hot!)
Likewise, in the middle of the rainy season, it can feel "cool", so we think it's cool weather that stimulates breeding when in actual fact, it's the availability of water!

To put it more in depth, reproduction in fishes is regulated by external environmental factors that trigger their internal mechanisms.
Environmental factors that have been shown to play a significant role in the spawning cycle are;
- photoperiod (I've mentioned that before)
- water temperature
- water quality (eg. dissolved oxygen, pH, hardness, salinity, alkalinity)
- flooding and water current
- tides and cycles of the moon
- weather cycles (eg. atomospheric pressure, rainfall)
- spawning substrate (eg. plants, sticks, gravel, etc)
- nutrition
- disease and parasites
- presence of other fish
These factors do not function independently of each other, but are inter-related.

I had a few pairs that spawned few days back, early next morning at dusk! The night before that, it was raining kittens n puppies. So they do like a cold shower before their rituals.

yep ... agree ... have only beensuccessful on cooler days ...
But I think Eric Yeo did mentioned that he striked 7 out of 7 spawns on a hot day.
Wow!!! This is almost a record. I tried 9 spawns recently on a hot day and got only 1 spawn for my marble plakats.
But they are now growing well at 2.5 weeks and about 1cm now. =)
