He...in case you re wondering, this is the only colour currently which I am not breeding . Some one got to convince me that this is a nice colour.
So who has them and what are your results so far? I suppose they all come from Mr. Lim Heng Co, Gilbert / USA.

Foo Hong,
One thing I can say is that they grow damn slow! My first spawn disappeared in an outside pond and we all wondered why.....Found out the answer with the second spawn - this spawn was at least a week older than an opaque spawn and by the second week, the opaques were larger! Put them together and the opaques still outstrip the oranges in growth rate....and we all know how slowly whites grow!!!
Never got a spawn from my imported oranges, only that from SY/Ing Ming, which I think is a better (lighter) color anyway. Just started jarring a few and am seeing darker, butterfly like pattern, cambodian like, yellowish colored fish (?),and some more solid color. Some nice DTs, haven't picked out any nice STs yet although a few candidates in the grow out tank still.
Regards,
Li Chieh

Errr, you can drop a few at my place and let them take my 'special menu'. see if they will explode in growth rate...
But its true...some strains grow slower. For eg, my yellows grow faster than the irids, who grow faster than the opaques, who grows...........who grows......zzzzz

Regarding Orange/Black ... it takes acquired taste to appreciate them ... to many ... they are just multis.
I have got a few Orange/Black females which I have yet to decide what to breed with ... any suggestions?
How about with marbles?

Was told that Orange X Orange/Black will give some of each.
This is assuming that they come from the same line which is Gilbert's line....
Anyone can confirm on that?
Also ... Dr Hse ... you mentioned that you Orange spawn threw out an assortment of colours ... does that implies that the Orange line have yet to breed through?

Except for the yellow fish, they are all orange - just varying shades of orange, and varying coverage of color, but distinctively orange.

Hi Guys,
I have noted that my oranges, tend to get more orangy as they reach 4-5 months. I have here 2 shots of my own DT oranges. The first is a Picture of a 3 mths old fry and the later a 4.5 mths old DT. Are those of you breeding oranges having the same experience ?

The orange tone darkens as they age.

Hi Sam,
I hope the Orange blacks are stronger than the oranges. Pure Oranges are not an easy color to breed. I have noticed that their fries tend to be weaker than others and they die easily. Is this your shared experience as well? Also after breeding Gilbert's oranges for some 4 generations now, I do get some yellow as well.

Hi Phil,
Dun have much experience with the colour ... did only one spawn.
And the observation on tone change was observed on the parent fish.
Maran will be able to provide more in-sight into the findings.
You seems to be right about the off-springs as well ... my spawn of orange blacks
threw out some pure oranges ... but they seems weak and most did not grow up well.
Have stopped the line ...
