why are nicks or usernames like addron2001 or kevin and mervin approved? Thought it must be realnames or at least kevin + surname??

I think it makes a difference since we need to know who we can conversing with. I agree with Xiao Bao.

use nick how to know who are members who are not right. Members can have photo album and non members don't have right a not? Registration guidelines also say no nicks and realnames only what correct a not. Aiyoyo.

Absolutely correct that no nicks are to be used in this Forum. There is no reason for anonymity here. Everyone with proper I.D. is welcome to post in this Forum.

I am of the view that Xiao Bao is not as common a name as Kelvin or Kevin. Guess what Xiao Bao meant was that with such common names it would be easier for identication if the surname is attached as well. Maybe Xiao Bao would have to distinguish himself with his surname if there is another Xiao Bao on this forum. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Here is an extract from the registration guidelines;

Pls note that your Username must be your Realname or Christian Name. NO NICKS will be allowed. All registered with NICKS will NOT be approved. However, you may use Usernames like Tom Lee 2 if the Username Tom Lee has been used by another user. If you are using your Christian Name, pls include your Surname or Family Name - Eg. Chris Yew instead of Chris.

If there is another Xiao Bao then Xiao Bao 2 is allowed.

As for Myron suggestion to include surname, based on the guideline it is for those with common names like Kelvin, Kevin or Sebas to have their surname included. Mine is a given name.

I agree with Myron.

Another point I would like to make is...
Sometimes, I see names which I have a feeling are taken from TV shows/movies, etc, but who am I to challenge it? Some ppl can be easily offended when you question his/her integrity. Some ppl naturally have a rebellious streak, and it is not necessarily a very terrible thing. Some ppl are just stubborn and some are overly defensive of their actions. Some take criticism like taking poison.

These are just characteristics of human nature. Sometimes, we just need to take things with a pinch of salt. Life would be so much simpler.

Just the other day, I saw someone register a nick "similan". Naturally, I recognised the meaning, and deleted the registration. However, after thinking about it, I realised it could very well be a valid name afterall. It is very difficult to enforce something which is so subjective.

I appreciate you performing this mundane, thankless but important job. Just want to say "Thanks".
