This is a good food for raising young bettas. Protein level is high and rate of growth of fishes consuming beef heart is known to be same as that fed with tubifex worms. The advantage is that its hygenienic too. However, left over in the tank must be removed and water changed partially. This is probably the only set back for using beefheart. Fishes may take a while to get accustomed to it.

Just got back, lah! Give me some time....
Think I will be using it for larger fry - when they become piranahs and cost too much to feed with conventional foods! Trialed it last time for palatability and to see if they can eat it and the result is - yes! They are just like piranahs and will bite chuncks out of the frozen bits, so no problem.....

FH,
beside beef heart, did any breeder use shredded chicken, pork or fish meat, freeze them and feed their betta. Will anything happen to the betta?

You shld never use meat[chicken, beef, cat , dog, whatever ] and minced them like beefheart. They will not work like beefheart.
Ever thot of why people use the heart and not the meats? Visit a fishball/sotongball/meatball factory and you ll know what I meant.
Of cos u can shredd frozen meat from the freezer and feed to adult bettas, some will take it. But u cant add vitamins in it. Never feed to young bettas cos they ll choke. Which is why when you make yr own Beefheart mix, make sure you rid all the veins.

OK, why beefheart?
Here's why;
Beef heart is high in protein, rich in minerals, vitamins, amino acids, lower in fats than other meats (except for kangaroo meat) and is cheap.
Fish (or prawns) can be added and gives the necessary omega3 fatty acids to the fish's diet. Can try Cod, Salmon, Herring. Cook the fish to reduce risk of infecting your fish with parasites carried in the flesh.
