Calling anyone who knows a little about imbellis genetics....

Bought an unusual imbellis on my last trip to BKK. Instead of the normal blue or turqoise shiny spots and facial color, the color of these areas are a goldish/bronzy color. Background color is black or black plus very very dark red (can't really see the red and I haven't looked too closely so far) It was quite rare there - the guy who sold it to me said it was the only one in Chatuchak but I saw two other specimens. Needless to say they were pricy (for imbellis).

What I hope to do is to outcross to splendens to retain the bronzy color, and hopefully even extend it. Think of a Bronze/gold mask HM!.

Question: what to breed to!!!

My feeling is a light color female, preferbly true cellophane, and get F2.
Alternatively if the color is allelic to blue, then a blue/turq/steel or even mask female, and get F2

Quite interesting project that will keep me busy for a while

Hi Li Chieh

Got such thing as colourless female splendens....??
I know for guppies, they use grey females...so that they dont introduce new colours to the F1....

When straits tried imbellis x splendens cross...they used opaques to create marbled or fish with lighter body to emphasis the star pattern in the F1 tails...

Roy,
it seems you deserve the title of 'experimental breeder'. Think I saw such fishes too in my last trip to Bangkok. suggest you try with a royal/tur/steel as it is probably closer since they all are irids in some way?

Yes, I think a blue line may be indicated here. Alternatively, anyone have an albino cellophane female? :)

Albino cellophane female??? you mean those with red eyes...
thought that's a rarity....why would you want to cross that
female into the imbellis line...even if you had a albino cellophane
female...unless you are referring to the while cellophanes....
