Think everyone should start posting anything, any obesrvations, suggestions in future, what went wrong, what should and shouldnt have been done here so that the next one will be better. We all learn so dont be shy.
For me, 2 main causes are :
1. duration of event too long
2. insufficient hands available[partly a result of 1.]
3. No overall coordinator during event.
4. Level of security still inadeqaute [theft]

Ya! Foo Hong
Actually some of my friend from oversea want to sent fish in but when they know that duration of event is almost 1 wk they all back off.
They told me competition in there country only 1,2 days and their fish already have problems.
Plus!Saw poor sam, maran and Edwin only when closing down. Really pity them.

Hi Friends,
Just to share some ideas. Koi show coming up on 27-28 April at Singapore Expo could give some pointers for future competitions, even the fish are different in behaviour (even though the humans will probably behave in the same way!). If I remember correctly, their approach is:
day -2 : setup (& fill water - koi needs aged water too!)
day -1 : evening - benching
day 1 : morning - judging, then show open to public
day 2 : evening - closed to public, then bench-out (or rush to collect your fish back!).
Even under these circumstances (ie 3 day 2 night stay for the fish), still casualties, but not so many.

Hi All,
Just some feedback from me ...
Think that the rack thatshows the betta should only allow viewing on a single side. i.e from the front.
What I observed at the competition is that we have lots of pple crowding both infront and behind the racks and causing stress to the fish and at the same time makes it very difficult to monitor the crowd movements.
Also ... maybe some form of chain infront of the reck might provide some deterrance too for cases like thefts.
Other things that I thought might be good to open up for some brian-storming ... how to promote the betta hobby. To keep the interest going.
One good sign that I have observed ... seems like there is a pick up in the no. of LFS selling betta. But I think they also test water test market ... but hope that they can rekindle the fire.
I think that is all for now ...
With Best Regards,
Samuel Phan
