Yeap. Its a long name but I like to called it MNR. For those who are still wondering what the hack this is, may I bring you to the more familiar Mustard Gas strain produced by Jude Als, probably one of the most colourful of all such lines.

This is also one colour I ve liked since I was young. The thought of a bettas not having red colour is very interesting, as most multis in those days[there werent many solid colours then] were Red multis - dark bodies or light bodies with blue/green and red. The those of the red colour ends up in a fish which shows its next colour layer in places where the red is suppose to be.... hence in most cases you get a tri-colour fish which is dark body[can also be cambodian] with green irids and yellow or orange-yellow.....cool:)

As with the other thread I started on marbles, these were never seen in good forms until lately. My trip to USA ended up meeting Mr Jude Als in person[aka Uncle Junkin], and his beautiful multis....boy my jaw almost dropped to teh ground at first sight.....someone has done it and all I need is persuade him to sell me a pair of these, and I did. Has anyone seen the fish on my site with the torn tail. thats the one Jude sold me[ prob same fish as the one on his hoem page] and which started the propagation here and in SE Asia. Problem is that none I ve seen is anywhere near to teh beauty of this fish originally from Jude.

FH,

Not sure of it being that particular fish that started the propagation in SEA. Know of at least a few breeders who started their lines from Uncle's fish (direct import). So all the fish around here should have come from a few great grand ancestors.

No other fish you've seen is anywhere near yours? Must go and see if I ever have a chance (still alive or not?). But Uncle's fish generally tend to have veil tail tendencies. The best MNR I've seen recently was in Malaysia (owned by a Taiwanese). (Very) near HM finnage and beautiful colour.

Hi,
I had reasons to believe they were all from the same fish maybe until a year ago when Maran brought in BC bettas salamanders. I know that shortly after I distributed the F1/F2s, I heard people claiming direct imports from Jude. I actually asked Jude if he has also sold elsewhere over a discussion on his oranges and purple gas. Frankly I dont think so. Anyway it doesnt matter where they are from.

In fact I felt a bit sorry for Jude and looking back maybe I should have considered more carefully before passing on the line. Jude is very unhappy over others using the Mustard Gas name, and I can understand why. People were selling pretty poor form fishes using the MG name. Not long after that, some Thai breeders started emailing me for MG stock, which I declined. Next thing I know, plakats in that colour were sold as MG plakat..., prior they were called 'chocolates'.....arrrh all these my fault.

I know one source which had my originals sold them to a Malaysian party. These things spread very quickly and it is no surprise that even the Taiwanese or Japanese has worked on them now.

The problem with Judes fishes is that they are large but their finnage volume is way too large for them. I have a female which maran has kindly passed me back. I am still trying to breed her after several unsuccessful attempts, not to any other Mustards but outcrossing to reduce fin size and improve angular spread.
