Ah ha! most common colours some may say. But lets be honest. How often do we see a nicely coloured fish.
Irids normally refer to the colours of royal blue, steel blue and turquoise. Forget your primary and secondary colours of light and crayon, steel x turq = royal...Ok?
royal blue is probably most desirable from a breeders point of view in that a royal x royal spawn produces all 3 colours. However, some breeders prefer to breed steel and turquoise using pure pairs rather than deriving from royals, argument being the colours are superior. From my own observations, I do not fully agree with this view entirely although I always feel that pure colour breeding in most cases will give you better colours. The exception however, seem to be in Turquoise. Most turquoise are more to a blue-green tone, while the more desirable colour is a green colour. To get a greener betta, turq x turq makes a lot of sense as a royal x royal or a royal x turq attempt to get turquoise bettas would in a way be introducing blue into a turq line.
Enuf of colour? Not yet.....the big question = how about redwash? Often we hear...."Alamak, I got a nice 180 HM but he got 2 red neck-ties....so how!" [ to be continued.... watching ESPN soccer update now!]:(

Very interested to know what you have to say in the next episode because I have a recent spawn of Steel DTM X Royal Blue STF.
Cant wait to see the outcome ... and through you maybe get to know more about blues.

An update on my Blue spawn ... about 50 fries let in the grow-out tank. They are now about 2 to 2.5cm and exhibits good finnage. Which probably also conclude that the finnage for Irids are pretty stable ... which will normally reward the breeder with good finnage when compared to other colours.
Some double-tails in the spawn which means that the mother has got dt genes in her.
All the fries at this stage is really clean ...
Also ... another spawn with the same parents underway because the first batch of close to 500 fries suffered from very mortality rate.
The new spawn have got about 300 fries and turned free-swimming this morning.
Suprisingly ... the father that abondaned his first spawn to be fostered by my red male is now a very dedicated father. The spawn was very well taken care of.
