Not sure if this topic is more appropriate under 'medication' forum. Who likes to start first....I will chip in later!

GEO - earth, natural.

To my understanding, not really fake lah. There are several brands that are already out in the market way before the red colored rectangular box invade local lfs. The most commonly seen is the taiwan or is it YiHu brand one. The one from Geo Flex came in with practically targetting at specific fish group like discus, louhan, guppy, betta, goldfish, koi and aro. Their understanding in each fish group created all these "natural" liquid. Yup, the other type which is white liquid will "crystallise" your water and wonderfully work within 30 hours. Aiya, if you know where to get Aluminium Sulphate, you can duplicate lah. In fact, geo liquid will also cloud your water slightly during the initial dose, it's a sign of similar chemical. Other than that, those for hard water fish will have a very interesting smell and will make you puke! What chemical will take be leh .... :) The software one hor ... erh, go test the pH, nitrate of the liquid lah. Then you tell me.

Ginyew, there are differences liao lor.

the Al conconcentration should not be that high. Al mainly used to bind heavy metals together but not the N . Is that what flocculating process or something lah. I have a feeling that mela extract is one of the main liquid in there, or maybe some mud. Too bad, I dun own a lab to do all these test.

Has anyone used geo liquid for the tanks? It boasts of water clarity, but I tried 1 tank with geoliq and 1 tank of just water and 3 days later, the one with geo liq still looked murky. Well, not that murky but it's not as clear as the one with just tap water.

May I know what kind of filtration system you are using and did you add the Geo liquid without water change? I had used Geo liquid before but I don't think it is a wonderful product. I had encountered the same problem with you before and what I did was to do a 30% water change and let it run for another few days.

sometimes it is also because of over 90% water changes and the good bacteria in your filtration system cannot deal with it and thus clouding occurs.

Biolfitration System
I reckon you are better off investing in good filtration mediums like charcoal medias, those filtering plastics balls and ceramic chips which encourage the culture of good bateria which in turns give you crystal clear water. If you are interested I can advice you on the combinations for the filtration medias.quote:Originally posted by gina

Actually, I put geo liquid in my betta and community tanks. Betta tanks do not have any accesories. Now that we're on filtration mediums, should this topic be moved to non bettas already? heh.

i put in the geo liq after a 100% change of water, it is still slightly cloudy after 3days. So the conclusion is.... just aging water would be the best then?

I would not do a 100% water change as it will be very taxing for your filtration system and that explains why your water is cloudy. Even if your water is very dirty a 50% water change using aging water is better and then you can add your Geo Liquid. For your filtration system do not use the running tap water to clean your filter as this will kill your good bacteria in your filters, instead used the remaining water in your tank to clean the filter.

I am using those filter where u hang at the side of the tank, it sucks the water up and goes through a thin foam like clothand the water comes back out like a mini waterfall. Kinda regret getting that. it's very noisy if u put it in the room. It's like a flush cistern that is filling up a bottomless tank. I normally do a 20% change, and then 100% once a mth cos it's easier to clean the gravel and all.
P.S. You over there... get back to work.

with a 5ft tank you should consider investing an external cannister filter, you can get it around $80-$100. I can't visualise your current filitration, seems alot like a top filter to me. Doing a 20% water change is fine, maybe you should try to do 50% once per month instead as 100% water change is not good for your fish and water conditioning.

oops. sorry. need to clarify. The tanks which i put geo liquid are my home tanks. 2ft with top filter. The 5ft tank is set up by sam's pet aq. That one looks like diving equipment and there's maintenance contract, so i dont worry about that. It's my home tanks that drive me nuts. ok. i'll try a 50% change. Thanks :)
