the current hot weather seems to make my breeders a little lethargic. Only the youngest show breeding colours, the adults seem to waiting for a cool season to arrive...sama sama???

Yap ... sama sama ... also think that cool weather (not rainy days) ... make good day for spawning.
1 week back when the weather was still quite cooling (unlike today 34 degree), 2 spawning attempts all were successful with large spawns.
The fries are now about 1 week old and feeding well on daphnia.
Not too sure it is because when the weather is too hot ... the glare kinda make them lose their appetite to spawn. Since my tanks are at the upper rack and with direct sunlight.
With Best Regards,

Heard from some people that they prefer a darker shaded place to induce them to spawn. Took the advice and it worked for me.

I believe so too ... try not to have the tank too well illuminated.
A dim corner will be good ... or a shaded tank.
No strong direct sunlight.
