How many times can your male/female betta spawn?
What is the max you have tried?
What are the intervals between spawns?

Personally, I mostly only spawn my females once ... and males twice if he is a really good father.

Had an interesting pair recently (the yellow pair that I spawned because they were there,...). I was too lazy to catch the female out of the spawn tank and before I knew it, they spawned again! Interval was perhaps about 6 days and the first spawn was just about free swimming! As far as I know, the second spawn hatched as well and both father and spawns 1 and 2 are still in the spawn tank doing well......The spawn tank is an outside semi covered plastic box heavily "planted" with java moss and covered with salvania, water never changed for about 6 months or more??

:) ... this sounds too good to be true you know???
My males afetr 1 spawn already 'tabelik tahan' already ... yours can actually do 2 spawns concurrently ...

must be prescribed some Viagra to the breeding pair ... or maybe even the Parkinson medicine ... heard that it is even better than Viagra. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hi all Shifu2 here..

I heard before that 1 female should only be breed twice...because after that the spawn will become weaker and the ratio of the male spawns will be less than 25 percent....is it true??will the quality of the spawns become bad after third breeding with the same female?

As far as I know, the number of times you breed a female should not affect the gender ratio of your spawn. I know cos I had 2 spawns of 100% females using virgin females. I think there are other factors contributing to the ratio.

As for the spawn being weaker, I do not see any reason why it should be so. Unless of cos, you are talking about the age of the female, where the time interval between spawns is considerable.

I breed my female fighting fishes every 1 week plus with different males. The babies are as much as previous spawn and ratio are always balance

Hi Eddie,

Think you are right. Never heard of any of the breeders here complaining that spawns get subsequently smaller. In fact, my females have produced larger spawns as they mature and grow. As for sex ratios, I think the determinant(s) are more environmental rather than parental. But not too sure about the precise sex determinant.quote:Originally posted by Eli Badran

Hi,

I have introduced a yound virgin female to a male and they have mated - i did'nt expect anything of this first spawn.

Now i am dealing with the cuts she have in her tails and feeding her with rich foods (protien and vitamins).

how long wil it take this female to be ready for next spawning?
i do not wish to damage her in anyway, so is there a rule i can go by?

the cuts will heal within one week - and i think she will be ready in less than a month, however will that be healthy for her?

thank you,
eli

Eli,
Let me tell you what i sometime does.If i use a big volume container for breeding(at least 10 gallons), i left both pareent with the fries. If the female don,t eat the fries, she usaully spawn again with the male almost inmediately after ther fries "free swim".(that is about one week).Normally i rest the female for around 2 weeks before spawning her again.Different fishes react differently to situation, so you go figure out the answer[ag][col]
thanks and regards derrick++

Just to add to Derrick's comments, I recently had an experience of pair taking a long time (About 1+ week) to start laying eggs till I virtually left them alone n didn't check for a few days. When I finally did, I saw fries that hatched n hanging on the nest and another batch of eggs that hatched around 1.5 days. The pair spawned twice and within a space of 2 days.

Guess really depends on the condition of the female after breeding and whether u subscribe to feeding them when they are in the tank. I do. You probably will be able to notice if she is still active or feeling "sad" from the battering:-)
