Q: Being a busy person, can I feed my bettas early in the morning (like 6am) just before I go to work, or should I skip their morning feeding session?

A: Feeding your bettas early in the morning can be done. However ensure that the tank lights are turned on about half an hour before feeding them. This will ensure that the bettas are awake, and that they will accept the food, rather than letting the food go unnoticed for a period of time, which will cause the water to foul up. The same applies for late feedings as well, just before sleep. Give the bettas about 15 minutes to finish up the food before switching off the lights and proceeding to bed.

[b]Tip: Tubifex sold by pet shops may sometimes come together with clumps of other unwanted dirt and soil. An easy way to separate the worms and the filth is as follows:

Put the worms into a shallow container, and fill the container with fresh milk, such that the worms are just barely covered in milk. Place a net over the container such that the lowest portion of the net touches the surface of the milk. Leave this setup for a while. After some time, the worms will crawl onto the net, leaving the soil and dirt behind. Voila
