Hey any experts to contribute?
What i figured out is that there are 4 types of black, melano black, black, marble black and black lace.
melano black are found in HM, SD and recently melano plakat. they have irid body. Female infertile.
Black as i understand is in black ct and black plakat such as black devil. they usually has irids on tail and pure black body. Female fertile
Marble black is similar to plakat black, found in spawn of black white marble or black marble spawn
Black lace never really seen but know its not as black and females are fertile.
has anyone tried to cross black ct/ plakat to melano and got fries to show? that can help me prove if i right or wrong.

I believe all the blacks from Thai originated from, or have been descended from Melano [ HM lines ] x CT black. There is still a lot of throw back of cts in their spawns and the rays are still far to few.

Kelvin, there is an article written by Dr Gene erh what's that name ... I recalled he wrote about the infertility of a Melano female.
when I first started off betta breeding early last year, I got myself a few melano. But after so many tries, no yield. Then that's where I search the web to read more on melano gene.
Somehow, I need to use a very dark blue female to cross with the melano male to get something out. Problem is that I got difficulties getting melano from the spawn. Most of the spawn are blue and only a very very small % are dark blue body black fins.

The Thais also do not use melano females, for obvious reasons

Lee Hong: I have something very similiar to yours and its still called a Black Orchid. But yours seem to have much lesser irrids than mine. Under strong light mine has red and blue washes instead of just blue.
