Myron, your poll rejects multiple choices. You will need to amend that because some of us do get from more than one country or sources.

Notwithstanding the limits of the poll, I gather that most of us Singaporeans depend on our local sources to obtain our bettas (due to one reason or other). All the more we should support our domestic breeders if we want to obtain quality fish.

Believe that this is also the experience of the rest of the non-Singaporean members on this forum?

So majority still buying from lbs, lfs, farm and home breeders. Not so many are buying from overseas especially if they are not buying in bulk. Aquabid exception.

I thought I had responded to this poll previously but don't see my respnse or the others that came after me ... so I will respond again.

I bought my most recent betta (red plakat) from InBs (Indo Betta Splendens Club) on January 6th and received delivery two weeks later (bad trans-shipper).

Before that I bought a red betta spendens at my local fish store here in Framingham, MA 01702 USA.

I think that Singaporeans are quite lucky. The variety of bettas from our local sources (i.e. fish farms & betta specialist stores) is quite good. So a trip to my regular supplier is all it takes.

During my NSF days in the Army, I'd heard from an old Staff Sergeant that wild bettas (i.e. short tail) can be found in some streams in a particular SAF training area (don't know which one). Maybe they had been released into those streams. I don't intend to catch and I don't want to find out because I don't wish to become a live target.

I obtained mine from mostly two sources.. BCS members and non-BCS members. the specialised betta shops are selling at too high a price for students, fully understandable in running a business. for students, i believe price is a considerable factor in betta acquisitions, lest they are relatively well-off.

getting from local breeders is a good choice since knowledge of the parentage of the fish can be known (though some may be incomplete) and they generally sell at lower prices (not all though).
