View Full Version : Infusoria in tubifex water?

I noticed this phenomenon this am after cleaning my tubifex - wondered if anyone else has seen this, or know what it is.

Washed my tubifex this am as usual - this batch at least 4-5 days old and pretty clean, kept in an aerated pail. After washing as usual (about 2 times), I left it out to stand. After a few minutes, I noticed the water surface was swirling with what looks like infusoria of some kind - looked like swarming daphnia, only much tinier. Could this be natural infusoria, or perhaps free swimming baby tubifex??[?]

Anyway, not wanting to waste it - scooped it out and put it in 2 new spawn tanks!

Maybe one day if I see it before work, I'll bring some in to look under a microscope!

Doc, you can scoop out a larger amount of water and leave the container under the light/sunlight. They will multiple pretty fast. But somehow, the fries don't really eat. Tried before.

If baby worms, the wiggling creature will move towards the corners and try to scale the wall of the containers. Fresh worms will cluster together and they are pinkish in color. Unlike their parents of dark red or brownish.

But do becareful of those flat worms. White color and more like a pest if you accidentally move a large colony to a big tank with other type of fishes. Multiple fast in your filter box.

That's what I thought! 2 for 1....Bonus!:D Unfortunately, if the fish don't eat it, then no use:(

Xiao Yi: This isn't slime. They are live and have free movement.
