I am toying with the idea of setting up a planted tank at home. I was wondering, without a coolant system and c02 injections, will the plants be able to survive? Planted tank in my definition is a carpet grass effect at the base with some bunched plants and driftwood creating some amazon effect.

yes, they are able to live without cooling system and cO2 system for most plants but they result may not be as good compared to those with tthose cooling and co2 system.
For your expecation , i reccomend you : Echinodorus tenellus / Lilaeopsis brasiliensis for foreground ,
as for midground u may use : microsorium pteropus 'narrow leaf' tied on wood / Anubias barteri var. barteri 'variegated' /Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Tropica' / Echinodorus schlueteri 'Leopard'
then the background u may use : Cryptocoryne usteriana / Cyperus helferi / Echinodorus angustifolius / vallisneria spiralis / microsorium pteropus 'narrow leaf' tied on wood
those above plant specially selected for u will definately give u the amazon look and most of the plant selected for u are very beautifull. Personally i love them also.
Hope u like them also, happy planting gina

And don't forget to supply enough light for them also.
I have an suggestion to u if u r not using the chiller system like me... hehehe, you may like to use those clamp-on fan (the size of computer fan ) instead .
I pesonnally use fan instead of chillers but when using fan must top-up water to the tank very often ( my 3 feet tank i add water every day).

sister gina,
what you need is not a planted setup. What you need is a rack system for you 30 RDs plakats. mahahhahah
