Other than onion, garlic has been proven to be the 1st runner up to make mouths stink and farts stink even more. We all have heard about the wonders of garlic in aquariums, more specifically arowanas.
Feeling real curious yesterday, i fed some seemingly dead/unwashed/disease-infested tubifex worms to a female. The effect of these worms were seen almost immediately. The fish went limp, and started to look more dead as time passes. So i smashed a garlic, and threw it into the tank. It didnt quite show its effects in the 1st day, but when i observed the sickly fish this morning, its swimming more and started feeding. How wonderful, something from the soil having its effects on something in the water.
Any fellow members wishes to share information on anything similar, or explain why garlic actually has medicinal values?

hahahaha good job Sebas. Not only garlic, but some plants actually have anti-bacterial properties. The most common one we see in Betta will be the ketapang leaves and banana leaves. And of course, what many people are looking at right now is the magical Melafix which is an extract of Austrialian Melaleuca Tea Leaves. For human consumption there are many more like onion, pepper, aloe vera, soy blah blah blah ... anything makes women looks slim is good stuffs. hahahaha. Anyway, why it stink and the anti-bacterial in garlic is Allicin, a natural anti-oxidant phytochemical.
That's why several discus breeder and larger fish keepers uses garlic as an ingredient when preparing food.

I've seen some of those foods (spiked with garlick) advertised and have often thought to try it. I suppose as long as it doesn't do harm and may work it may be worth a try!

Onions also have such uses? Okay, next up ONIONS. Probably anything that makes one fart smellier is great stuff.
Female with serious problems still not as active, but still swimming.
Another female with lesser symptoms previously has fully recovered.
Both tanks' water turned cloudy prolly due to the garlic. Verdict to the use of garlics, SAFE. :D
Dr Hsu, its nice to meet you today, sorry my hands were really dirty so i didnt want to dirty yours with all the stench and stuff. What do you think about my grandpa's store? Its really messed up as there have been new stock coming in this morning. Will post a photo of my marbling orange soon.

haha, if i have taken your advice only now, i think both of them are already in betta heaven;). Changed the water as soon as i came home and saw the water condition. Ya, theres a strong garlic smell.
I think that unique fish is just like our BCS grand champion, some unusual fish that pops out of the spawn every now and then, although i am hoping it will have more patches of black appearing[:p]

Garlic is used in Discus mix to deworm the bloody fish. I ve also mixed garlic before in my own mix of betta food.

I ve also thrown bits of carrots into teh jar, also tried papaya, water melon, green tea, ginseng tea, etcc......nothing better to do!
