not to worry, u definitely will see me at aquarama busy in one of the fish competition. As for betta, i still working on the latest batches to determine my presence in betta scene.

From 21 categories at national level squeeze down to only 9 classes in a 2 years once international show. So must work extra harder to find a spot in there.

Aquarama is more of a showcase for the commercial fish world thus there had to be some compromises in the betta categories - they would not let me put in 20+ categories!

Latest is that they are trying their best to get sponsors for cash prizes, but I doubt they will be successful as bettas do not seem to be a cash cow type of fish (they already have sponsors for Lou Han and Discus).

There is a limit to the number of fishes in each category as they have limited the whole betta category to 200 tanks, so if you know you have good fish to enter, do so early!

In view of only 200, suggest we propose to them...get rid of last category...wilds!

Not yet Myron. Per last event 2 years ago. They will announce and closing date is actually quite far away from event date. This time they shld be better as Hsu is advising them.

For all those interested in participating, you should commence breeding now or in Jan/feb.

I may not take part this time round.

Latest news for Aquarama 2003:

Entries: Entry forms will be sent out in January. Closing date is 1 April or something like that.

Prizes: (Subject to changes and finalization - please do not take this as confirmed!) There should be a cash prize for the Grand Champion. At this point, it seems like it would be in the region of S$1,000. There will likely not be cash prizes for the class winners, unlike in the Discus and Flower horn categories.

Judges: The main attraction here is that Dr Gene Lucas has agreed to come!!!:D:D:D:D He will be one of the judges for the bettas and has also agreed to give a public seminar on Sunday 1 June - topic to be advised.

Feeding fish etc: This will be on a per request basis. There will not be a specific time to do so but the organizers will be flexible and allow feeding and maintainence on an ad hoc basis when requested by participants.

Was wondering, what are imbellis strains such as coppers, golds etcs catergorized under?

Dr Hsu
27th February 2003, 09:08 PM
The may not be eligible. Judging from comments from the wild betta experts, coppers are considered a hybrid of splendens and imbellis. As such, they would not be eligible in the wild type category. I suppose they can be entered in the plakat category if yours look more splendens, especially those that have been outcrossed to splendens for a few generations.

Dr, there are a few new strains entering local scene. I knew of green, blue imbellis, looks like wild. Those hm plakat, is it plakat ? A few of my friends have been asking, i also dunno how to answer.

Dr Hsu
27th February 2003, 11:19 PM
Green and blue are natural color variants of imbellis. I suppose they can be put in the wild type category. For HM plakats, they definately will not do well in ST, DT or Crowntail so should be in plakat section
