Hey bros, can u bros give me tips on raising the fries? Each time i raise the fries, they would only last for a week [V]..I raise the fries in a 1 1/2ft tank and fed them with liquidify fry food..

Don't use liquifry, as the fry don't take that. Use newly hatched baby brine shrimp (bbs) or daphnia.

I am with Charles on this. Use microworms or vinegar eels and you should be able to increase the survival rate of your fries dramatically.

Daphnia are too big for week-old fry.

hi hi now in process of breeding too :) first time and absolutely heart broken, the daddy is a good fish [although he shredded the fins of the mom a little] and around 100 + hatched [or it filled the entire tank] after 1 and a half week only 8 survived [pray very hard that they tong the rest of the way]

Read that they will not be able to eat anything except infusia or liquid fry no. 1 so thats what I fed [must refrigerate after open else will spoil]. when they are a 5 days old start feeding the shrimp.... thats when they start to die .....

Before that I change water every day as some sites advise maybe thats why so many die too.

actually i have no idea what brine shirmp looks like except that the package says they they hatch in 36 hours egg shell float to the top shrimp sink below. But the mistake is I put more egg shell than shrimp I guess and the babies proberly ate wrong thing.

curious many sites mentioned that fluctuating tempreature will kill the fries and its been rather cold lately [rain] does that affect?

Usaid,
I gives my fries Daphnia from day one and they are doing well.

Jessie,
Thinks your fries died due to water problems rather than the temp.Use a larger container for spawning. Bigger volume of water can last you longer(need not change water).
note: i use a 2ft tank for spawning and i don,t do any changing of water for the next six weeks.Even for smaller container , do not change any water, just leave them as its, for at least 4 weeks .

:) Thanks derrick I'll just add water from now on. Praying very hard that they'll live and looking forward to the next breeding and not make the same mistakes again.

Hope everyone had a good week. Almost 10 days have pass since the last post and the babies are growing up well :) Everyday when I look into the tank its growing alittle bigger >< thought that there were 8 but maybe now that they are bigger its easier to count there's actually 15.

Thanks to Derrick advice did not change water for a few days until the tank bottom is full of junk [liquid fry pollutes water]

Used a shringe to suck up the excess food every morning. Shringes can be obtained from pharmacies cheaply.

add water everymorning
Feed hatched brine shrimp [The shringe is handy again to avoid getting shell]
Feed liquid Fry [initially caused worried they might not catch shrimp]

They are now 20 days old and really excited to see what colors they have caused all of them look brown / white / transparent???

Cheers!

Forgot to add. I think lights are important. Placed and aquarium light above the tank when the light is on they seems lively

Hi there,

Where do I get Daphnia and Venegar Eels?
My fries are 1 week old too! Cant count them cos there are dense water plants. Been feeding with Liquifry No.1 at the moment.

Thanks,

Ken

Myron,

Just make sure that your daphnia is put in the day that the eggs are laid or the day after the eggs are laid.. THis enables the daphnia to reproduce and by the time the fry need food, the baby daphnia are available. I only feed daphnia for all my fry.
