I had differing results when I used a same pair for few breedings over a space of several weeks/month.
Maybe it affects the sex ratio and morw importantly......quality of offsprings? Who had similar experiences?

or do you guys breed a pair once and then threat it like BATA footwear?

Can't contribute much here but just to get something going. I've an imbellis female spawned several times with different males each time. The first spawn the fries were tiny (she was young then...about 3 months, 1.5 inch or so). The most recent spawn was at 5 months and over 2 inches long...the fries seemed double the size of the first batch (i mean like immediately upon hatching. I basically fed them i feeding of bbs then followed by daphnia straight away.
Just did another spawn with a small female...fries are itsy bitsy. Is it to do with the size of the eggs? Older females presumably pack more into their eggs?
Also heard that older males have less tendency to eat eggs, so they make better dads.
sorry can't comment on quality of fries yet.

It most certainly does insofar as the sex ratio of the offsprings is concerned. More on the following thread: http://www.bettaclub.org.sg/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=211
