Maybe you're over treating - just like our own skin when plied with 1001 ointments etc, it can react in exactly the opposite way. Slime is produced form mucous cells on fish skin and it is protective in function.

this type of problem normally associates with tubifex, anyway....in a lot of treatments....when I want to take gamble [ since you might lose yr fish anyway if u sit n watch ], I gave hima strong salt bath to kill what ever it could kill. then I trf the fish to some mild bacteriacide such as mthy blue or yellow powder. I keep it rather diluted as if done properly, teh salt would have killed many pathogens. Some types of copper based medications I find actually makes the fish uncomfortable if overdosed. For me I never used things like maroxy or whatever. The only stuff I have at home are conditioner, salt, yellow powder, ketapan leaves....full stop.

F Hong,

Would yr fish have a high chance of death from disease then? Things like velvet, internal bacteria. cos y powder has only restricted usage. thanks for yr advice.

I never ever buy any tubifex in my life before so i had no idea how the disease come about? perhaps introduction from other's fish.

anyway still cant cured it, despite not using med for a day, still the same. its not like slime, something like covered as if it was a velvet cloth....you know....a film of whitish stuff. still trying.....

my fishes hardly get velvet. I buy small amt so of TBWs and rinse 3 or 4 times in water...soaking in abt 1 litre of water in betw so they regurgitate their ballast.

I find it less risky than TBWs which are over 1 day old as any dying worms due to chlorine actually makes thgs worst.

n they grow big and fast on TBWs.

I use to add all sorts of stuffs.....lately i am exg on tapwater!

anti chloramine ocean free. not sure how much i add in the aging container but aint enough i think. ocean free claim that it can be used to condition a whole lot more water than the other brands. only about 5 affected amongst the hundreds.

Ocean free will say anything like they are the god of medicines. sometimes its marketing talk.
but if u follow the dosage, it shld be fine. why not use other brands, the price is similar.

have you read the instruction on ocean free? its like 4-5 times the amount of water it can treat as compared to any other brands. so other brands would have to cost $1 to compare. anyway i usually skip conditioning water sometimes. not much harm.
