Dsc01314.jpg is his sister right? Quite long finnage for a female.

Anyway, if your aiming for red, a lot would need to be done, if your aiming for cambodian, I'm betting that only a few inbreedings would get you to where you want it to be.

By looking at the pics, I'd say that the fins need to be worked on quite a bit to give it a bit more crispness on the halfmoon as well as the fin edges (they seem quite jagged in the pic, has he already spawned when the pics were taken?) but considering his age, assuming that the breeder gave relatively the exact age, the finnage may improve as he grows older so really can't say yet.

That's just my take on the situation. Considering that you had an HM with Giant in him, it would already be quite a deal for me. Good luck!

Hi Tevin,

I believe this is the first time a picture of a Giant HM is posted at this forum. Can't imagine how huge your Giant Red Piebald HM is going to become if he's currently only 3.8 mths old.

Piebald Bettas are actually marbled bettas with the difference being the base coloured patch on the top of their heads.

I read somewhere that the percentage of getting Piebald Bettas in a spawn is low (around 20-30%). Taking into consideration that the percentage of Halfmoon Bettas in each spawn is also not that high, a Red Piebald HM is something rare.

What's his body length (i.e. from mouth to caudal peduncle) and caudal length (i.e. from caudal peduncle to the end of the caudal)?

tevin,

congrats on the good buy. hope you could let us know the actual size. if it's really a true GIANT, then it's a very good piece considering that i have seen quite a lot of GIANTs on aquabid but not many can hold their 180 caudal as good as yours. most of them look "veil" to me. tat's is one plus point.

one not so desirable thing is thar it's not a true solid RED. maybe a mix of cambodian. myron aka mr. red might have something to comment. :-)

wish u success in the breeding program.

hi David, i'm not sure if that's the sister, i did nt ask the breeder, i got them as pair Hm red giants. think i have to work very hard to produce ex reds.[bh] he's going to spawn soon, as if he is really a giant, this would be quite a gd age to spawn, if not a giant, it would be better if i spawn then later down a couple of mths i'm left with a old man.:D

Helo Daniel, The of the male lenght from mouth to caudal peduncle is slighty a bit less than 2 inch, from mouth to tip of tail is nearly 3 inch. the female lenght from mouth to tip of tail is 2.5inch.:D

Tevin

It does not sound very big for a "giant". Hope you don't mind me saying it. The female reminds me of someone's fish which has the same characteristics, i.e. longer fins. All the best to your spawn!

Cheers!

Nice fish Tevin....good luck on your spawning.
He may not be very big for 3.8 months for a giant....but he still does have a good size...
and nice finnage.....actually, depending on the genes, you may get some reasonable reds quite soon down the line....maybe as fast as your next spawn....if you're lucky, who knows, they could be Hm as well :)
