You will have to check with Li Chieh on that issue whether $20 per fish or otherwise.

It's per fish (1 entry = 1 fish).

Have not yet negotiated with them to see if they will give BCS members a discount - stay tuned....

Aquarama is organised by a exhibition organiser (profit making organisation) and as such, charges will be imposed on those that they feel will have more entries like discus, bettas (now), etc... Those that they feel will not have too many entries will be free for now. As that is an International competition, if the charges are not of certain level, they may have toooooo many 'junk' entries thus wasting lots of space and time and it's isn't good for an international competition like this. Though there's a limit to no. of entries per person, some bypass this rule by having the whole family to take part, just like last year.

As for the categories and classes, I feel that it's difficult to have a set of categories and classes in whichever competition that will deem 'fair' to all participants. So I feel that if one wants to take part, have to play by their rules loh.

Just my personal thought.

Chris has the gist of it all. Aquarama is a commercial trade fair. They try not to make a loss and as Chris says, the fee is to limit numbers and to ensure better quality in the entries. The free categories are there mainly for commercial breeders - if there are charges for some of them like Goldfish, tetras, platys etc, then no one would participate as it is too much trouble for the breeders to do so (this is especially true of fish such as Arrowana). As it is, they have to persuade breeders to enter in some of the categories

Categories - they balked when I suggested 20+! Due to the commercial nature of the show, they needed some compromise. The categories basically try to strike a balance between having 1-2 categories (like the last aquarama's Delta and CT categories)and 20+ or more like in IBC shows. Not the best, but helps split things up a little.
