Hi Everyone,
What do you feed your beloved bettas most frequently?
Do you feed them flakes, pellets, freeze-dried food, frozen food, live food or other stuff?
The objective of this poll is to determine what type of food is most commonly fed to bettas on a regular basis. For those who choose "other stuff", please do share with all of us what that stuff is.
Thank you for your participation.

My bettas are fed live brine shrimps once a week. Usually, I feed them freeze-dried bloodworms twice a day.

The current results show that lots of us go for dried stuff like flakes, pellets and freeze-dried food. Perhaps these are more convenient and readily available.
There is one vote for "other stuff". I wonder what that stuff is.
It would be good if the voter could share with us on this.

Thank you for sharing, Xavier. Good to learn that the fish at Betta World are given a varied diet.
The half-moon that I got from your shop (see pic below) is still going strong.
Any new fish coming to Betta World?

Currently, it looks like pellets and frozen food are most commonly used on a regular basis, and flakes and freeze-dried are less commonly used.
Thank you very much for your sacred votes.
Do keep in mind that our bettas need good nutrition and they should be fed a varied diet. So, while it is convenient to feed them a single type of food on a regular basis, do remember to throw in something special occasionally. I'm sure they will enjoy an occasional special treat.

Hi Shannon,
Welcome to the BCS Forum and thank you very much for participating in this poll.
I've not actually seen or tried Kyrin First Bites before. Not sure if it's available in Singapore. For discussion and enquiry on Fry Food, I would like to invite you to join the following thread.

I like live food. They (females) produce eggs faster for me I dont know if it work for you guys. My males have more bright colors. Just sometimes once in a long time I might get a infection from the food but I always find a way to cure him/her.

Well I'll be darned Shannon, is that YOU? I swear I know every American on this board personally. LOL
Frozen is my food of choice, but I offer live whiteworms 3x a week, and also feed them a Special Secret Formula Mix of freeze-dried. The ingredients I use really boost juvenile growth and egg production, and its 100% bacteria/parasite free.

Hi Shannon, Victoria,
When you guys say it is good for your spawn and juvies, can you share what the typical growth rate like is for a fish fed on your diet?
I know different spawns/lines grow at different rates, but will could you share what your fish size roughly is at 1 month, and 2 months?
thanks

Hi Eugene,
Can you tell me the size of your largest fry at 4 weeks and what is your feeding regime? Just would like to know if I am underfeeding them. I am referring to long tails.
Thanks

Fish are sexable 3-4 weeks, and full size or close by 3 months.

How do you tell Victoria, they all look the same to me-unless they are all females!

Sorry folks,
I'm sorry if I'm interrupting, but we need to stick to the topic of the thread (i.e. What do you feed your Bettas?).
The following threads are on differentiating the sexes of the fry. It is where I learnt that it is possible to differentiate them at Week 4.

I was talking to this Japanese rep, an agent for Hikari, at Aquarama and he told me that the frozen BW can be kept in the freezer up to 3 months. From what I could figure out (we are chicken and duck in languages), it depends on many factors, two of which are how often u take it out and how long u expose the pack in room temp. Usually mine finishes in less than 1 week. Is there anyone who kept frozen BW for up to 3 months and it doesn't go bad ?

Life food's the best for life things, the colour will appear betta.
I also sometimes take some of my father's baby guppies and put with my baby betta.
Recently as I was jaring my betta fries now 7 weeks old. I accidentally scoop up one of the small guy with a big one then the bigger one chase and eat up the small guy's stomach leaving the remains flooding around.

I don't know if you guys are awared that bettas do have preferences on the food you feed to them. Each betta has it's own likes and dislikes, take for an example my big fat female pink plakat will eat anything that fits into her mouth:flakes, pellets, worms, etc. But my Red CT only eats pellets and live worms, any flakes he will ignore. Even if you starve him for a few days he will refuse to eat! The bottom line is to have a balanced of nutrients, a combination of pellets & flakes during the weekdays and once every week on Live worms will do the trick.
I would strongly recommend the followings:
Monday to Friday: Tetra Mini (for bettas) Morning
Hikari betta pellets Evening
Wednesday: 1/3 water change (water must be naturalised with anti-chlorine)
Saturday : Live worms
Sunday : 3/4 water change (add sera vitamin-2 drops, anti-chlorine & a bit of seasalt & blackwater extracts)
If you have the time, try to remove the debris everyday using a fish net or suck out the debris using a mini tube.

it helps that you can ocasionally feed your bettas with ants(minus the head) or flies these are good sources for protein but you must be awared of the sources it might be infected with insectides, repellent, etc....
