I am very new into bettas.. I have been keeping discus for some time and have just discovered and appreciate 2 new beautiful fish (other than discus of course).. one is bettas and the other being-- PLECOS!!!

They are absolutely beautiful, with even more variety than discus itself. As they are over few hundred strains/ variety that they need a numbering system (call the L numbers) so that people can identify them faster and not be confused...

There are spotted ones, wavy ones, strips ones, black and white ones, fleshy ones, huge ones, ablino ones .. etc etc many!

Just to share with you guys what is keeping me all keen and amazed now!

erm are these similiar to those dirt eating/suckers? are they suitable to be together with bettas in community tanks?

shouldnt be a problem mixing the two.. i think some fellow forumers here keep the plecos with their betta fry.

Add on a bit, it's not a problem if the tank is big. if it's small, our fellas will whack the hell out of the plecos. you'll see nips here and there on their fins.. normally their dorsal. usually, there are no serious damage. the bettas just see the plecos as nuisance and infringing on their territorial rights. hahha.. i tried it before. but note these plecos too produce waste and requires different food unless you aplenty algae for them to feed on. be prepared for extra cleaning too lest your tanks have proper filtration.

hmm my 2feet tank got no algae one haha... i keep it quite clean so i guess plecos not suitable. so far my 3 female bettas and 7 tetras live quite happily in there. they all eat the same food so easier to take care.
