Dear members,
I wish to clarify to all members and betta lovers that the classified ad placed in the S.T. on 7 Sep regarding the Betta Competition is not organised by Betta Club (Singapore).
As the ad does not state that it's organised by who, my committee has checked it out following the address and found out that it's organised by one of our commercial members. Since the ad choose to remain anonymous, I'll not state who is the organiser's name or shop.
Following the ad, I've received numerous phone calls to query if the competition is the one organised by BCS. Therefore, I will answer to the questions below that I've received;
1. Is the competition refer to by the S.T. classified ad on 7 Sep Sat organised by BCS?
Ans : No, that competition is not organised by BCS.
2. Then who is the one who organised it?
Ans : It is organised by one of our BCS commercial members.
3. Isn't BCS going to have a Betta Competition on the same date 6/7 Dec?
Ans : YES! BCS in fact had make some preliminary annoucement on the date of competition. Therefore, BCS may have our 2nd National Betta Competition on 6/7 Dec 2002.
4. Wouldn't it be a head on clash with both competition on the same date?
Ans : Yes, we cannot avoid it as we have already decided on the date much earlier and we can't change it simply because some lfs wish to pick on the same date as ours to have a competition. Even if we will to change it, another lfs may have another competition which may coincide on the date changed.
5. But that competition which clashes on the same date as BCS has cash prizes and is BCS going to have such 'attractive' cash prizes?
Ans : Usually the standard prizes in our BCS competition are trophies / certificates. Cash prizes are usually not the norm unless there are sponsors specifically states that they wish to do so. The committee will not use the club's funds to include in cash prizes so as to attract more entrants. We will have to justify for the correct usage of the club's funds and rather to have more better events organised than to put it as cash prizes.
6. Would it affect the number of entrants for BCS competition then?
Ans : More or less it will! But our members have been very supportive so far and I'm sure that most betta lovers and members will definite choose to participate in a competition that is organised by the official betta club of Singapore even though there is no attractive cash prizes.
7. But will the winners of the BCS competition represent Singapore in any world competition?
Ans : I cannot confirm now though my vice president and I have been discussing with our neighbouring countries' official betta or fish clubs. There is an intention to host the first Asian Betta Competition in concurrent with the National Betta Competition on the same 6/7 December 2002. As discussion is still going on, I cannot provide further details.
But in 2003 there will be Aquarama show where betta is one of the categories in that regional competition to be held in Singapore.
8. Is the fees charged by BCS going to be high like $15 per betta?
Ans : Though we have yet to decide on the charges whether it's going to be the same as the last competition, but it's definitely not going to be $15 per betta for BCS members. Our members will have their priviledges.
9. Is BCS going to have 2 categories for the competition too?
Ans : No! In the last BCS competition, we had more than 20 categories and it's not going to be worst than last time.
10. Will the committee change the date of the BCS competition if the number of entrants are going to be reduced and will definitely be attracted to the cash prizes?
Ans : NO! BCS will not change the date because of the head on clashes on dates. But unless it's due to the 1st Asian Betta Competition whereby other countries are involved, and date may change only to accomodate all other countries participants. So far, there's no plan to change the date yet.
The above are some of the questions that I've received and hope that the answers will help to clarify on any misunderstanding. Therefore, I hope that the betta lovers and hobbyists will still continue to support and participate in our BCS competition which schedule to be held in 6/7 December 2002.
Thank you
