ok. I'm intending to spawn my blue imbellis pair.
I place the female in a small tall tank into the breeding tank. Put the male into the breeding tank. Now the female is blowing bubbles and not the male
WHY???:

sometimes it happens..
had females that built their own nests, dropped ther own eggs and put them in the nest they built..onli thing is that the eggs were not fertilised

I have one in which the poor guy blew a mini-nest and was frantically picking up the eggs day and night. However, despite his efforts, the majority of the eggs would on the base of the tank most of the time. Took pity on him and hatched the eggs artifically after giving him 2-days to prove himself. Surprising, most of the eggs hatched!
The variations in betta spawnings is one of the most fasinating appeal of breeding bettas. You should expect the unexpected! And there is always something to learn every spawn, so that your next spawn would be even better!

Have you seen butterfly cocoons before? There are some very shiny nice irridescent ones at Sentosa recently. But what lies within each cocoon is a beautiful butterfly. But we would not be able to see the beautiful butterfly if we do not allow the butterfly to break out of the cocoon, destroying the beauty of the cocoon in the process.
The same would be said of breeding bettas. Get my drift?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Have a clear objective and breed the best pair you can get your hands on. Why don't you take pictures of the pair and let us advise? Alternatively, you can bring your pair down to the 28 Sep competition and get the experts to give their pointers.

If your female still gives problem(beating up male. put her with a good fighter bettas. Let her get wallop for a while then try breeding her again(it works, try it).

Once had a male that made a bubble nest with eggs inside and then the female went to make her own bubble nest at the other end of the breeding box. However the female had fewer eggs and a smaller bubble nest. In the end, both the male and the female looked after their own fry.
