This is the other medication I use.
I do not use it as frequently as I use yellow powder, which I find is more effective. However, the bottle I have serves as a 'back-up' in case I run out of yellow powder.
M/B, as I recalled what Dr Hsu said, works by contact with the bacteria. I have used and found M/B to be effective under the following situations:-
1. transportation - keeps the bacteria at bay till the fish arrives at its new home.
2. For breeding pairs after spawning, esp females. Once I had a female opaque from faith. She hard a portion of her flesh ripped off as she tries to escape her mate and swam against a sharp object. She recovered fully in a week in M/B
3. Quick disinfecting of live bloodworms and larvaes before feeding.
4. During salt bath, to kill whatever bacteria the brine will not.
What I ve noted to be ineffective are against fin rot. The type of bacteria in Finrot/mouthrot/etc seem to be resistant to M/B.
Oh and be careful....it stains anything except glass and your fish.
